Step into the ethereal realm of unspoken longing and heartfelt connection with Spaceless, a captivating Thai short film directed by Jatuphong Rungrueangdechaphat. Inspired by the soulful melodies of Getsunova, this cinematic gem follows the intertwined destinies of Tul and Garn, portrayed with raw authenticity by Jespipat Tilapornputt and Bible Wichapas Sumettikul. As close friends navigating the labyrinth of their shared history, their journey is as tumultuous as it is tender. Brace yourself for an emotional roller coaster as we delve into the intricate layers of friendship, love, and longing in this mesmerising cinematic experience.

"Sometimes Where You Are, Where You Want To Be, And Where They Let You Be ... It‘s Often Not The Same"

Garn in Spaceless

Spaceless, a 19-minute film, begins with a somber scene where Garn is in a hospital, and Tul wishes him a speedy recovery. Through flashbacks, we see how the two met as nervous 21-year-olds auditioning for lead roles in a series years ago. This audition sparks a steady professional collaboration between them, and as they grow close, Garn starts to develop unrequited feelings for Tul. Despite their close professional contact, the emotional distance between them begins to widen.

From A Bad Boy To Romantic In Love With A Man Fighting With Himself: Jes Tilapornputt And Bible Wichapas Shine Like Stars In The Sky

Jes Tilapornputt plays a character deeply conflicted between following his heart and pursuing his goals. His portrayal is exceptional, truly doing justice to the complexity of the role. Through his performance, Jes effectively conveys the character's inner turmoil and emotional struggle, drawing the audience into the character's journey. His nuanced and layered depiction highlights the challenges and vulnerabilities faced by someone in such a difficult predicament. Jes's commitment to the role is apparent, making his performance both captivating and memorable.

Bible, known for his acting debut in “KinnPorsche” as the antagonist Vegas Theerapanyakul, transitions from his unhinged ‘bad boy’ character to a soft-romantic role in this short film. He portrays someone experiencing melancholic one-sided love. Despite the film's brief runtime, Jes and Bible exhibit notable on-screen chemistry, making them an intriguing pair.

But I Want More: The Whys and What Could Have Beens

Like with all cinematic gems, I felt that spaceless had room for improvement. I would have liked to see Tul's last moments with Garn. I would have also liked to know if Tul quit being an actor like he told Garn he would. How did Garns's death affect Tul's life? There are so many ways the film could have ended but the ending leaves you wondering if Garn's love for Tul was actually one-sided.

Final Verdict: A Must-Watch with a Side of Tears and Plenty of Tissues

If you're craving a poignant, heart-wrenching tale of unrequited love, "Space Less" is an ideal choice. This short film delves into the bittersweet journey of loving someone who cannot reciprocate your feelings, delivering a powerful and emotionally resonant experience. With a heartbreaking climax that tugs at the heartstrings, "Space Less" is masterfully carried by its talented lead actors, who skillfully convey the depth of their characters' emotions. Prepare to be swept away by the raw intensity and poignant storytelling of this unforgettable cinematic gem.
